Cars

I really wish cars weren’t so necessary, or so expensive to upkeep.  I know that part of it is my fault because I am a bit lax about car care.  However, it really does add up, even if you don’t need much.  And of course, when it rains, it pours.  Which is kinda fitting for today, as it is raining and I had to spend double what I expected on my car.

I  went in specifically for the NYS inspection and oil change.  I also asked them to look at my front tires and replace them if needed, as well as the rear brakes.  When I had my front brakes replaced, the mechanic said I had maybe 6 months left on the rear brakes, if I was lucky.  It’s been 8 months.

What I wasn’t prepared for was that I needed 4 new tires and a serious alignment (thank you towns for not fixing potholes in a timely fashion!) and roters, brake pads, and calipers to go with those rear brakes.  Ca-ching ca-ching.

But as I thought about it, I realized that it’s probably not wrong that I need 4 new tires, with the rough winter and all those unavoidable potholes, and I don’t think I’ve ever had the rear brake roters replaced in 8 years of owning this car.  So, in all honesty, I do believe it had to be done.  So I had them fix up my car, and I have to tell you, driving it home, it cut through the air like butter.  There’s no rattling, no shimmying, no creaking and groaning.  Smooth turning all around.  And my car stops when braking.

I just hope nothing else is needed for a while, or I’ll be walking to work.

Rainy Sunday

•May 15, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I’m actually very glad it’s rainy and miserable out there.  Now I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about hanging around inside today to watch soccer.  I have the Arsenal game at 11am, and then Barcelona at 3pm.  Not to mention the other games I’ll be keeping tabs on.  My whole day is planned out already.  But with it being so nasty outside, I don’t feel bad that I’m not going food shopping or buying my sister a birthday card.  I still have tomorrow where I can do that stuff.

It’s great to have a long weekend from work.  Every three weeks I get three days off, and I do take advantage and catch up on sleep, friends, and fun those weekends.  The next one will find me and my sister heading to Foxboro, Mass to see a soccer match.  We are both very excited.

Anyway, very happy for the rain today.  It just makes it feel like I have the perfect plan for the day, rather than saying to myself, “I should be outside in the sun” or “I should go to the supermarket because I’m out of juice and cold cuts”.  Nope, today I’m going to be saying “What a yucky day.  Glad I don’t have to go anywhere and can stay home and watch soccer”.

A Saturday with nothing to do

•May 14, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I work 2 out of every 3 Saturdays, and usually have a jam-packed Saturday off, filled with errands, friends, family, cleaning, etc.  But today, I have decided to do nothing.  I have the day off, and I plan on sitting around and doing nothing.  I’m not sure I’m even going to shower.  For those of you out there who are cringing at that…I did shower last night when I came home from work.  Animals can be so smelly.

There are some good soccer games on today, so I may sit down and watch those.  My 2 fav teams play tomorrow, so that day has been set aside specifically for that.  But today is a free day, and I am looking forward to it.  Even my cat has respected that.  True, I am up pretty early for a day off, but I am always up early.  But Rumor the cat did not bug me to be fed.  In fact, he lay about with me this morning instead of forcing me awake.  Even he can feel that today is a lazy day.

So, today is a lazy, reading, computer, TV day.  I’m not sure I’m going to even leave my apartment.  And quite possibly…I’ll be bored by 10am and looking for something to do or someone to hang out with.

Allergies

Well, it’s official.  I am suffering from an allergy attack.  I’ve tried to fight it off all week, but my eyes are runny, my nose is stuffy, and my throat is dry and sore.   Glad I stocked up on Claritin the other day.  I swear, an allergy cold is worse than the flu.  At least with the flu, you sleep all the time and therefore can’t feel how miserable you are.  No such luck with allergies.

I hate the color green!

Computer chairs suck

•May 12, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I’ve been at my computer all afternoon, surfing the net, chatting with friend around the globe, catching up on e-mails, news, and my sports teams’ news.  My back hurts, and my neck is stiff and killing me.  Why can’t they make computer chairs that make you actually want to sit in them for long periods of time?  True, my chair is old and not really a good chair, but still!  It should at least be partially comfortable to make you want to sit in it at some point.  Well, now I know what to ask my mom for my birthday.  Unfortunately, that’s not till the end of the year.  And how the hell am I going to fit a soft, comfy, rolling computer chair into my cramped, tiny apartment anyway?

New to the is blogging thing

•May 12, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I’ve signed up for this site and decided to blog because my cat is probably getting tired of hearing all my ranting and random comments of weirdness.  Can anyone send me tips on how to use this website and program correctly?  And truthfully, tell me how many of you out there read things like this.

First time for everything.

I have no idea how this works, but as a writer, who is having trouble physically writing, I thought I’d try typing to get my thoughts out of my head, and have the added bonus of driving people crazy with my ranting.
